Space Available Now

Firefly currently has one morning space available and two afternoon spaces due to a scheduling change. Please let us know if you would like to visit if you are not currently enrolled.

Planning Ahead

This fall we are pleased to offer a Pre-K/K program in addition to our regular preschool program. Summer programs are appropriate for 2.5-8.5. Summer Camp information and Fall Registration will be available Tuesday, February 16th. Saturday School is an excellent opportunity to preview what Firefly has to offer. We are thrilled to offer a new Spanish program lead by a native speaker, music and movement with Keeth and Nala, French language exposure, upcoming arts with Counsel Langley and more.

For those of you not familiar with us, Firefly is a discovery-based learning program, drawing from the emergent curriculum principle with a strong foundation in math, science and literacy. We provide a safe, fun and educational community in which children develop and refine social skills, gain a life long passion for learning and a positive self concept. Our outdoor space provides the flexibility to accommodate various energy levels at all times. Children feel at home. Our child-centered approach allows us to meet each individual at their level and support them to the next by offering a prepared, vibrant environment that encourages growth. Firefly integrates Montessori philosophy in that we are a multi-age and multi-ability classroom.

We offer classes M-F 9-1 and T/Th 1:30-4:30. Our afternoon program is perfect for nap-skippers and home schoolers.

To request a handbook and summer brochure please contact us at 379-1129 or via email, info@fireflyacademy.com.

Academics

We are incorporating movement and Spanish with our regular music program, we find that moving while learning can really help! Keeth and Nala are building upon our Spanish language exposure by incorporating colors, numbers, animals, familiar phrases and more in Spanish into their songs! The children are picking it up very quickly and really enjoying this opportunity. We are also working on Spanish vocabulary using flashcards, books and movement on a daily basis. We are still providing French language exposure in our program as well.

We are well into our unit on transportation. We have made many things that fly: airplanes, helicopters and parachutes. We have sorted items in the classroom by those with wheels and those without. We have played many classification and identification games which enhance math skills and vocabulary.

In math, we are working on shapes with curves: oval, circle, ellipse, crescent, quatrefoil.

Socially, we are working on using kind words, being great friends, including others and active problem solving. If you would like some ideas of how to reinforce these concepts at home please let me know..

We would like to thank Dawn, Jesse's mom for an amazing presentation on Alaska to go along with our Arctic unit. The children enjoyed looking at traditional native dress, ate Eskimo ice cream and were able to play with traditional toys. We would like to encourage other parents who may want to share with our children! You could teach us about your heritage, your career or your hobby!

Other Firefly News

We are in the process of prepping our garden space to grow vegetables, strawberries, raspberries and flowers that we will enjoy at school and hopefully be able to send home.

If you would like to contribute to the snack pool we are looking for high protein snacks like string cheese or cream cheese for bagels. In the carbohydrate dept: bagels, rice cakes, fresh or frozen fruit to make smoothies. The children also love satsumas, bananas, dried fruit and crackers. Thanks to all of the families who have donated snacks!

Thank you for all of your wonderful support! We love our Firefly families!
